Miracles Happen

In a brief press release, Orange Romania announced today that its parent company just signed an agreement with Apple for bringing the iPhone to Romania, Austria, Belgium, The Dominican Republic, Egypt, Jordan, Poland, Portugal, The Slovak Republic, Swizerland and the African countries covered by the mobile company:
„We believe the Romanian market is offering a real potential for the adoption of the latest communication novelties, and Orange is the leader of this market with over 10 million customers. We are glad we will be able to offer this year the iPhone device to our customers”, stated Vanina Ungureanu, Product Division Manager at Orange Romania.
“the future’s bright, the future’s Orange”, indeed, as I never thought I’d get to see this day in the very near future.
Hope also Vodafone will make this move, as I don’t feel the urge to sign for another cell phone plan—and I’ve learned a few days ago they went for some other “exotic” countries, such as our own—, but still, it’s a whole lot better than nothing (ie. going the jailbroken way).
Now I’m just extremely curious what will happen to the iTunes store. I think it’d be pretty frustrating paying a small fortune for this device and be welcomed by the friendly “iTunes store is not available in your country”. Still, we—and probably a lot of other countries recently brought aboard by the mobile companies—don’t even have an official Apple Store yet, so I think it’s either the Apple guys get to work on extending their iTunes support for other areas, or we’ll have to stick to a very expensive device featuring Mail, Weather, Stocks…
